Development and Application of a Compositional Parametric Approach to Human Performance Prediction
NASA Ames Research Center
Alonso Vera (ARC/THI)
This is a SISM NRA2 grant, initially
administered by the Intelligent Systems Project.
Software and control panel design for a NASA mission must typically be frozen months before launch, with little opportunity for design improvement during the mission. Prior empirical testing with skilled users is expensive and requires additional time. This research task will further develop efficient cognitive modeling techniques for predicting human performance at monitoring and control tasks, and for optimizing an interface design in terms of speed or accuracy. The semi-automated design software will also be extended to software interacting with multiple humans. Implications of alternative cognitive theories will also be explored, leading to better device usability prediction models in the future.
