The Human-Centered Computing (HCC) subproject of NASA's Intelligent Systems Project develops means of optimizing the performance of mixed human/automation systems. HCC research will enable development of adaptive systems that amplify human cognitive, perceptual, and motor capabilities -- in space, in mission control operations, and in air traffic management, safety, and security systems.

See our Introduction page for a quick summary of the HCC subproject. Technical areas -- described on the HCC Structure page -- include

For a detailed graphic overview of the HCC subproject, view the 07/28/02 AAAI-02 slide presentation by Michael Shafto and Barbara Brown.

Follow the menu bar links for more about subproject structure and objectives. Descriptions of funded research tasks may be found within the three subproject elements and in the HCC Tasks page. Our News page briefly describes recent progress, as reported by the task principal investigators, and our Events, Links, and Contacts pages offer routes to further information.
